福岡女学院大学短期大学部英語科Today

「英語科Today」に「English Lounge」という新カテゴリーが加わりました。English Loungeでの活動の様子や，English Loungeを運営している学生スタッフが発行している月刊紙「Lounge Times」の記事を転載してお届けします。

The English Lounge held a welcome party on 25th of April. Before the party started, a lot of people came to the English Lounge. We were so grateful that we had about sixty people in the Lounge. The room was crowded but the party went off smoothly.

We did many things at the party. First of all, all the lounge staff members introduced ourselves. This year fifteen lounge staff members will manage the English Lounge. The introductions were pretty fun. We hope everybody remembered our names at least. After that, we enjoyed two kinds of games. One is called the True or False game, and the other is a bingo game. In the True or False game, we gave questions about Jo Gakuin. We were impressed that first grade students knew a lot about Jo Gakuin. They answered our questions easily, but we didn't prepare enough prizes for all the students with high records. There was a keen competition. Our bingo game was not the general one. It was an introduction-to-each-other bingo game. The way of the game was really good for getting to know each other and making new friends. Everybody seemed to enjoy it very much. We spent a great time talking in English, playing games and having some snacks and drinks at this party.

It was a nice opening party for the English Lounge. We, all lounge staff members, appreciate that you made it a great event. Thank you very much. And we hope that we will see you soon at the English Lounge.

　English Loungeでは，5月30日に本学卒業生の馬場さんを招いて，「イギリスで『あいうえお』を教えませんか」という題でお話しいただきました。本学は現在，Aquinas Collegeに日本語教師助手を派遣する制度がありますが，馬場さんは，その制度を使って，Aquinas Collegeで実際に日本語を教えていました。
　このフォーラムでは，最初にStockport（Aquinas Collegeの所在地）での生活などについての話があり，その後，実際にどのように日本語を教えていたのかという話題になりました。日本語の数字の発音の仕方を教えたときには，類似音をもつ英単語と結びつけ，学生が楽しめるようにしていたということです。たとえば，数字の「いち」を教えるときには，かゆがっている動作を見せ，その動作を表す単語itchを提示することで，楽しく覚えられるようにしたということです。ちなみに「に」はknee（ひざ），「さん」はsun（太陽）となります。「４」以降は...想像してみてください。

　今回は私が短期大学部を卒業後，１年間のイギリスでの生活をフォーラムを通じて，話をさせていただきました。
　人前で話すことが苦手な私は，フォーラムの始めにとても緊張していて，おどおどしていたかもしれません。そんな中，在学生のみなさんに真剣な面持ちで私の話を聞いていただきました。アクワイナスカレッジでの日本語教師助手としての仕事内容，語学学校について，休日の過ごし方やホームステイについてなどの話をしました。また実際に私がイギリスでどんな授業をしていたか，体験もしてもらいました。きっと私のイギリス英語なまりの英語を聞いて，不思議に感じた学生さんもいたのではないかと思います。
　さて，このフォーラムを通して，私は短期留学の経験がある人，留学希望の人，英語を使った仕事に就きたいと思っている人が多いことに気づきました。そのような人たちへアドバイスを送ります。自分がしたいと思うことは，思うだけではなく，必ずどこかに書き留めておいてください。したいことや目標を書くことによって，それを達成するための行程が見えてくるようになり，計画を立てるという一連の流れができます。また，前が見えなくなった時に，その自分のしたい事リストが役に立つ時がきます。是非すてきな女性になって欲しいと思います。私も今自分の目標を達成するために奮闘中です。
　最後に，１時間半という限られた時間でしたが，参加していただいた先生方や女学院の学生さんに深く感謝いたします。ありがとうございました。

English Loungeで発行している月刊誌「Lounge Times」7月号より，カラオケ大会についての記事を紹介します。

There was a karaoke contest held at the English Lounge five years ago. Many participants sang their favorite songs, and the room was filled with excitement. Since then, however, the contest had not been conducted.

On June 25 that legendary event came back. "The Revival of KARAOKE Battle" was held at the English Lounge. We were delighted that many students and teachers joined this event. Ten students and four teachers entered the contest.

All of them sang beautifully. Of all, Ms. Nakashima's performance was the most impressive. She gave us three presents:

1. The song "You've Got a Friend" (by Carol King) for us. 
   
2. The cue card with the song words. (Thanks to it, we could sing together.)
   
3. Delicious sweets in bribes for the judges. (It was her joke!)
   

After all, she gave us much happiness.

The champion of the contest was the pair of Naomi and Marina. They were very good at singing and excited the audience at the event. They got a pair of tickets for the New York Symphonic Ensemble's concert. They looked happy.

We're sorry that we had some trouble with the karaoke machine. But we thought that everyone enjoyed this event. We thank all of the students and teachers who joined us.

 English Loungeで発行している月刊誌「Lounge Times」12月号より，10月31日におこなわれたハロウィーン・パーティの模様を伝える記事を紹介します。非常に多くの学生や教職員がパーティに参加し，盛況の様子でした。

We had a "Halloween Party" at the English Lounge on October 31st. The Halloween Party is a big event like Christmas. Many students and teachers join the party every year.

We had a lot of guests. Everyone came to the party in Halloween costumes like a witch, a pumpkin, a devil, and a bandage man. Cinderella also joined it!

We had a great time making lanterns, playing games and running a fancy-dress contest. We also enjoyed having pizza, fried chicken, French fries and some dessert.

We think this year's Halloween party was a great success! We hope we will have a wonderful party next year!

English Loungeで発行している月刊誌「Lounge Times」1月号より，One Day Cafeに関する記事を紹介します。One Day Cafeは，毎年イングリッシュ・ラウンジを管理・運営する学生スタッフが企画するものです。教職員や学生が手作りのお菓子を持ち寄り，販売します。売上金はホームレス支援NPO福岡おにぎりの会に寄付されます。

We opened a cafe named "One Day Cafe". It is one of the special events held at the English Lounge. We serve many kinds of dessert and drink to students and teachers, and donate to charities the money we get through this event.

The staff members of the English Lounge made sweets at their own homes. Some teachers and office staff also brought various kinds of sweets voluntarily. We could prepare over 20 kinds of dessert for the cafe.

Every sweet was so delicious. I felt happy to see a broad smile on everyone's face. I was also happy that much more people than usual came and had merry conversation in English. We were very busy but we did our best for visitors. I thought we bonded together strongly though this event.

イングリッシュ・ラウンジ運営スタッフもこの４月よりメンバーが交代しました。代替わりして初めての Lounge Times (イングリッシュ・ラウンジで発行している新聞）が発行されました。その中より４月３０日におこなわれたWelcome Partyの模様を伝える記事を紹介します。

We had a welcome party on April 30th. This party was our first event. A lot of new students came to the English Lounge! They were ready and willing to speak English. They said "Hello" with smiles when they came into the room.

We had a good time playing many games. First, we played vocabulary game. We had to think of many words at this game. When the game's emcee called out, for example, "family," we needed to list words related to the word, such as father,mother,brother,sister and so on. Amazingly, the winning groups came up with so many words. After that, we played “true or false” game. The "true or false" game is a popular game. Everyone knew how to play this game. The theme for this game was Fukuoka Jo Gakuin. Although the first few questions were easy to answer, the questions gradually got harder and harder. Only one person could keep on getting the right answers and got a prize. Congratulations! Before the party was over, we took pictures of ourselves.

I think the party was successful though we had some points to be improved for the future. We did our best and enjoyed this party. All of the Lounge staff appreciated the new students and the teachers joining us.

短期大学部にはイングリッシュ・ラウンジという部屋があります。ふかふかのソファがあったり、大型テレビがあったりして、キャンパスの中では異質の空間です。ただし、この部屋を利用するには１つだけ守らなければならないルールがあります。それは"English only"というルール。

イングリッシュ・ラウンジでは毎日のようにいろいろなイベントが企画されます。この部屋の運営やイベントの企画はすべて学生にゆだねられています。今日はEnglish Loungeスタッフの１人、Annaさんが、ウェルカムパーティの様子をレポートします。

４月２３日（金）にEnglish Loungeでウェルカムパーティーを開きました。予想以上の人数が集まり、English Loungeでは"English only"なのでお互いに身振り手振りで懸命に英語を使って会話をしていました。始まる前は"English only"というルールに不安な新入生もいたようですが、部屋に入ってみるとアットホームな雰囲気で楽しんでいる様子でした。

まず最初にグループ同士の自己紹介も兼ねてお菓子を食べたりジュースを飲んだりしました。少し緊張気味の一年生もだんだんと慣れ、笑顔で会話ができるようになってきました。

次はゲームタイム。今年は連想ゲーム・人物当てゲーム・英語しりとり・福岡女学院クイズをチーム対抗でしました。連想ゲーム・人物当てゲームははじめのヒントではなかなか思いつかなくても、２つ、３つとヒントが出るにつれ、多くの手が挙がるようになりました。英語しりとりは、最初は簡単でも、食べ物の名前、"e"が最後についてはいけないなどのルールが加わり少し難しかったようですが、みなさん楽しんでいるようでした。福岡女学院クイズではゲームをしながら女学院のことも知ることができ、今後の学校生活で役に立つゲームでした。

優勝はピンクチームでした。ピンクチームのみなさん、カフェのソフトクリームはおいしかったですか？

私たちLoungeスタッフも初めての大きなイベントで、準備期間も短かったため手の行き届かないところもあったとは思いますが、多くの方に来ていただき、スタッフ一同とても感謝しております。今回のイベントを今後の活動につなげていけるよう、スタッフ全員一致団結して頑張っていきますのでご協力よろしくお願いいたします。

English Loungeは楽しいイベントがいっぱいありますが，時にはスピーカーを招いてまじめに話を聞き，いろいろなことを考えます。今回は5月21日に開催されたフォーラムの様子をAnnaさんがレポートします。

5月21日（金）卒業生によるフォーラムが行われました。今回のスピーカーは2002年に短大を卒業した飯盛さんでした。卒業後、英国のウェールズに留学し、日本語英語教授コースを専攻されました。日本語教師養成講座を修了し、現在では日本で外国の方々に日本語を教えていらっしゃいます。今回も多くの人がこのフォーラムに来て、（4大の人も来てくれましたッ！）みんなで飯盛さんのお話を聞きました。

話しの中で、英国の子ども達が日本語の授業を受けている映像が流されました。それを見て、私立の小学校と国立の小学校と少し違っているのに気づきました。私立は静かに話を聞いているのに対し、国立ではとても活発で先生が後ろで「シー！」と言うほど多く発言をしていました。また、外国の人たちは「おおい」と「たくさん」、「行きたいです」と「行きたいんです」の違いをよく質問するそうで、みんなでその違いについていろいろ考えてみました。やっぱり日本人の私たちが頭を抱えるほど日本語って難しいんだー・・・と実感しました。

フォーラムが終わった後も私たちスタッフにいろいろな話をしてくださりました。外国の人に質問され、答えられなかったときがすごく悔しく、常に生徒が何を質問してくるかまで予想して授業に備えているそうです。

今回のテーマ「You will find it someday.」自分の「it」を見つけられた飯盛さんはとても生き生きとしており、自分の仕事に誇りを持っていらっしゃるのがとても伝わってきました。私も自分の「it」を見つけ、将来、イングリッシュ・ラウンジで私のフォーラムを開いてもらおうと思いました
