Summer English Camp in Osa (SECO) is an intensive course in which students stay at a residence hall on campus and study English for six days. This year 28 students participated in the programme, and enjoyed studying English with two instructors from Britain specially contracted for this programme.

Classes start at 9.00 am and finish at 3.50 pm. Besides this there is a self-study time for daily assignments and final presentations. This is a very demanding course, but the students had a great time this summer.

The two instructors, Moira and Janet, are professional teachers with a lot of experience, and they love teaching and communicating with students.

The department provides SECO for students who do not study abroad. Every year half of the second-year students take this course. They truly enjoy this 'mid-summer' instensive course .

The EAGL department will welcome high school students and adults who are interested in studying with us. The following events and activities are planned on the day.

(1) Talk with EAGL students: all day long

Two EAGL students are waiting for you. You can ask them about what you want to know about the department's programmes. You will get information from the insiders, which will be valuable to decide where to study.

(2) Special lecture: 1.15 - 2.00 pm / Room 332

Professor Hosokawa will talk about a history of English: how it developed from a local to a global language. In this lecture you will also listen to a variety of English used in different parts of the world.

(3) Consultation with EAGL taechers: all day long

Two teaching staff are waiting for you. If you want to know which examinations will be best for you or how much it will cost to study abroad, please talk to the staff.

Other information such as scholarship and accommodation will also be available provided by professional people in these areas. Please do not miss the opportunity to meet our students and teachers.

In this information society, knowledge becomes crucial to understand each other. Since English is used by nearly a quarter of the world population, those of you who have thorough knowledge of English will be more likely to get a ticket to access the world. We are happy to help make your dreams come true. 

January and February are an important period to those of you who are hoping to study in our department. You might want to know more about us. Please visit this blog and also messages in the past. I studied English at the University of Auckland for two semesters. It was absolutely fantastic! I was able to learn English in an extraordinary environment. I was really impressed by the beautiful sceneries. I took the photograph above when I went on a trip to South Island. It was just amazing! I saw Mt Cook, one of the world heritages. I will never forget what I felt when I saw the mountain.

In New Zealand there are a lot of interesting cultures. I stayed with my host family while I was there. And thanks to them, I had a lovely Halloween experience. Some children visited my house with special costume, and they said 'Trick or Treat!' They were very cute. I gave them some sweets. That was the experience I could not have in Japan. I am completely satisfied with my life in New Zealand! (from M.I. 2nd-year)
